When Maine wedding photographer, Andree Kehn, asked me to join her Shootstyle pals for a model shoot in Bethel, Maine I was hesitant to go.  This was back in mid-November when I was still busy working on getting wedding galleries up and album designs finished for holiday delivery.  And it was cold.  The kind of cold that freezes the moisture in your nose when you breathe.  I had never been on a group model shoot before, and the photographers of Shootstyle are so talented that I figured it was worth braving frostbite for the experience.  Friend and colleague Sam (of Samantha Warren Weddings) agreed to drive — she knows the way to Bethel with her eyes closed — and we struck out early to arrive in time for a quick lunch before the shooting was to begin.   As all things seem to go with people of the artistic bent, everything ran late.  By the time all seven of us photographers figured out what we wanted the models to wear it was apparent we would not have much time with them.  Andree had picked Grafton Notch State Park for the shoot location.   When we reached the falls the light was fading fast, and we all quickly donned some blaze orange (it was hunting season) and got to work.  While it wasn’t the most ideal photo session — everyone was freezing cold and we had a big problem with appropriate footwear for the models — we had fun.   Below are some of the images.  Many thanks to the lovely models for their good humor and patience while we had them climb rocks and straddle tree trunks.

Winter Projects

January 9, 2010

During my busy summer season, I start making my Winter Project List.  Some of the items on my list:  start the process of branding my business, order new sample books, update website galleries, sit for a proper headshot, play around with Photoshop actions, and design and print all client albums.  I need your help with that last one.  If you haven’t yet selected your favorite images for your album, I am encouraging you to do so now.  I would love to get everyone’s books done by May.  All orders placed in January will receive a little something extra so don’t wait.   Contact me today to get started.

And if you’re wondering what’s on my Personal To-Do List this winter, here are a few: learn better bread-baking techniques, READ, photograph my family more frequently, properly plan my vegetable garden, and hire a babysitter so my husband and I can go out on a proper date every once and a while.  What’s on yours?

A Forgotten Reference

I was cleaning out and organizing my inbox when I came across this email from Kristina:

I just wanted you to know how much we love the photos! You did such an amazing job, it’s honestly beyond words. I was looking at them at work today and was getting choked up – you were completely able to capture the emotions we felt throughout the entire wedding! We also had such a great time working with you!

Thanks, Kristina!  The best thing about my job is meeting people like you and Derrick.
