Here’s the third session with sweet little Edwin (see the second shoot).  We met up at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth on a damp October morning.  It would have been a dreary way to start the day, but with a smile like Edwin’s it just wasn’t possible to let the weather bring us down.

In my town we have many wonderful beaches, and one of my favorites is Ferry Beach.  It’s got this fabulous tree trunk high up on the sand that must have washed up after a storm.  The kids love it, and it makes a perfect posing bench.  Ferry Beach also has some pretty sand dunes with tall grasses and a weathered fence.  It’s a photographer’s playground really.  I had a great time photographing these adorable kids last September (oh summer, how I miss you!).   The little one had a wee bit of a cold and wasn’t quite in the mood to be stalked by a strange lady with a big camera, but with a little bit of coaxing and a lot of perseverance we got some great stuff.

Ferry Beach Family Portrait

December 5, 2010

If you ever needed proof of the benefits of a establishing a relationship with a photographer, check out these results from this late summer beach session with Miss Sydney.  I’ve been photographing Sydney since she was a newborn.  This session at Ferry Beach in Scarborough, Maine was our sixth shoot together!  Sydney’s parents and I hustled up and down the beach that afternoon, trying desperately to catch her and the last rays of sunlight.  Looking at these images now (in December) it seems like a we maybe we should all spend some time in the waning summer sunshine with our cameras trained on our kids.  Because it’s such a fleeting moment — both summer and childhood.
