I had the most wonderful initial phone conversation with Michelle. She was lovely, animated, and enthusiastic. As first calls go, this one was pretty much perfect. I found out later that not only is the bride an avid photographer, but the groom, Josh, is a photographer in the US Army. Oh it’s safe to say that I felt more than a little pressure to get things right — if Josh could manage to get the exposure and focus right in Afghanistan, I certainly had no excuse!

The wedding was a small family affair on Josh’s father’s property.  Michelle and Josh, with the help of their family, did all of the decorating and set up. They did an amazing job — the tent looked amazing. I had checked the forecast earlier that morning, and it didn’t look good for our after ceremony photos. So I arrived extra early and took advantage of the sun while it was shining. It was a stunning day…until the monsoon came. The ceremony was hastily started as the first drops fell. It was a deluge, but Michelle and Josh didn’t let that ruin their moment. The downpour didn’t stop until hours later, and I can’t remember ever being so wet as I packed up at the end of a wedding. But that didn’t bother me. It had been an awesome day.

My gratitude to Michelle and Josh and their family for welcoming me to their home. I enjoyed every moment (well, maybe not those ginormous mosquitoes!). And many thanks to Michelle for these kind words:

“Amy, I don’t know how you did it, but you managed to make us look fantastic even on a rainy day! You are an amazing photographer! We are so glad to have had you document our special day!” and “We are so glad we chose you to photograph our special day. As two photographers ourselves, we know how important it is to have someone, who is not only professional, but has a true talent for photography.”

Check out some highlights below, and if you want to see me, take a look at their slideshow.

Patti, Keith, and I met for coffee one winter morning, and before we parted ways I knew I would be crushed if they didn’t hire me to photograph their wedding. We laughed our way through our meeting. That kind of rapport and connection is what makes this job so special and rewarding. And it also helps make the wedding day all that more enjoyable and less stressful.

The wedding was on a perfect spring day at the gorgeous Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I loved how Patti and Keith put their fun personalities into their wedding attire. Patti wore a fabulous dress and perhaps the most perfect wedding shoes ever (see photo below). And Keith’s madras pants make quite the statement.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to meet this amazing couple. I only wish they lived in Portland so we could get together more often. Many thanks to Patti and Keith, as well as their wonderful friends and family, for welcoming so warmly on their big day. It was a true honor and joy to be able to document it for them.

Here are some of my favorite images from the day. You can also see more in their slideshow.

Many thanks to the other professionals who helped make this wedding so special: Bride wore an Anne Barge dress from The Plumed Serpent Bridal Salon, shoes by Kate Spade, cardigan from Brooks Brothers, veil is from Priscilla of Boston, barrette from Anthropologie; hair by Angela at Akari; bridemaids wore Coren Moore from Flair Boston; flowers by Danielson Flowers of Shrewsbury, MA; venues were the Spruce Point Inn and St. Patrick Church; rocking party DJ by The Pros (Patti and Keith are serious about music and this guy fit them to a “t” — I packed up my gear to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones); Cake and cupcakes by Sweet Sensations/3 Dogs Cafe of Rockport.

I’ve been working on Meghan and Kevin’s Fine Art Book this week. It is a real shame that I have yet to blog about this wedding because the images are wonderful. Must make a point to get back to blogging this month because I hate that there are so many fabulous images from last summer I have yet to share.
