I live on the coast of Maine and more often than not shoot seaside weddings so it’s easy for me to forget that there is a whole interior part of the state that is quite impressive. I had been hearing about Moosehead Lake since I moved here, but it’s an almost 4 hour drive away, and there has been plenty of seashore to keep me busy.  But then I got a call from mother of the bride, Ginny, about her daughter Jodi’s destination wedding at the Blair Hill Inn in Greenville.  She gave me a great reason to make the journey to the Moosehead region.

Jodi and groom Joe invited friends and family from western Pennsylvania up to Moosehead for a weekend of wedding fun. The wedding ceremony was on the lawn, overlooking Moosehead Lake and was led by the family pastor. The sun started setting and cast a beautiful light on the scene (lighting that is rather challenging to shoot in mind you).  Jodi and Joe gamely posed for family portraits as the sun quickly started to dip below the mountains on the other side of the lake and the temperature dropped along with the sun.  Guests moved into the glowing cozy barn to find tables laden with home made cookies and jars of Stonewall Kitchen jams.  Why so many cookies? Apparently there is a tradition in western PA where the family of the bride bakes cookies for the wedding reception. Imagine an entire table of homemade delicious sweetness and you’ve got the picture (Instead of one big cookie-filled table, Jodi and Joe had platters of them placed throughout the room — tempting you at every turn!). I like this cookie idea and strongly support bringing it to all Maine weddings!

Getting to know Jodi and Joe and their family and friends has been great. I feel truly lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of their wedding celebration. Best wishes to the happy couple for a long life together filled with joy and gratitude.

I love shooting up in the Boothbay area. There is something about the quality of the light, rocky coast, sparkly ocean, and the narrow roads that wind along the shore that just …  pleases me, I guess. Just past Boothbay Harbor is the island of Southport. Its location is convenient to the shops and restaurants of Boothbay Harbor, but Southport really offers visitors the option of tuning out all that and enjoying the natural beauty of Maine’s coast. I can think of no better place to do that than at the Newagen Seaside Inn.  Charming and secluded, the inn’s fine service and amenities really make it the kind of place you’re not in a hurry to leave.

Timmi and Erik invited friends and family to join them at the Newagen for a weekend of festivities.  They had perfect late summer weather for their wedding weekend, and guests seemed to fully enjoy their time in at the inn. Timmi and Erik loved the bikes the inn provides, and as they are avid bikers themselves, they decided to make it a bit of a theme for their wedding (see their adorable invitation below). We planned their “first look” photos on the dock, and there couldn’t have been a better spot for it. Timmi and Erik shared a few moments by themselves, and I was given awesome opportunity get some beautiful images. Between the bride and the groom and the location it was pretty hard to get a bad picture. The ceremony was a bit later in the day, and after the cocktail hour the bride and groom and I sneaked away to get a few pictures with the bikes and some “just married” signs Timmi had made. They wanted to use the image for their thank you cards, and they wanted it to be a surprise. We almost missed sunset — the sun sure goes down fast in September — but managed to grab a few shots on the rocks. I think Timmi and Erik especially enjoyed having a moment away from the wedding reception where they could soak it all in.  Dinner and dancing followed late into the evening.

Best wishes to Timmi and Erik for a long and happy life together. And many thanks to them and to their friends and family for having me.

Bar Harbor is a truly spectacular destination for a wedding. Getting there always feels like a bit of a challenge but as soon as you get out of your car the place starts working its magic. It’s no wonder so many couples chose Bar Harbor for their destination weddings. Tory and Jobey had an extra connection to the place. Jobey grew up spending his summers at nearby Camp Robin Hood. So they chose the Bar Harbor Club as the venue for their August wedding and invited their closest friends and family for a fabulous celebration.

Tory and Jobey chose to have all of the formal wedding photos done before the ceremony. Neither of them were keen to spend a ton of time in the spotlight, so it made sense to get everything done before the guests arrived.  It also made for a relaxed start to the day and meant that Tory and Jobey were able to greet all of their guests during cocktail hour.

Tory was stunning in her Nicole Miller gown. She’s a natural in front of the camera and gave me one beautiful image after another. Together, she and Jobey kept it light and fun. After the ceremony the guests soaked up the long rays of sunshine and beautiful scenery from the patio of the BHC. As the sun set everyone moved into the ballroom and celebrated with the happy couple late into the evening. The night was complete with emotional and funny toasts, a delicious meal (have you had to BHC’s popovers and strawberry jam — combined, they are divine!), and a wild dance floor.

Best wishes to Tory and Jobey! Many thanks to them and to their friends and family for the warm welcome. It was a true pleasure to meet you all.
